arts http://www.arts-project.org/ 6502x
aRts is a framework for developing modular multimedia applications. The sound server, artsd, allows multiple applications to cooperatively process and output sound and music. aRts is designed to provide its filter and synthesis capabilities to other applications using the multimedia communication protocol (MCOP). aRts is also capable of modular realtime synthesis. It can create sounds & music (realtime midi synthesis) using small modules like oscillators for creating waveforms, various filters, mixers, faders, etc.

WaveTools http://tph.tuwien.ac.at/[..]avetools.html 6407x
WaveTools is a library consisting of 8 programs for manipulating mono WAV Files which I have written for an audiology project at the Technical University of Vienna some years ago as a toolbox for generating and preprocessing small test samples, so this is probably not for making music with (unless you're doing some real hardcore Techno ;-) ), but if you want to write your own effect filters or sound analysis tools and don't want to mess around with format conversions or standard input filters, or if you just want to arrange some WAVs for your voice modem, you might find this useful.

JukePeg http://www.bitbox.co.uk/jukepeg/ 6337x

Waterfall is yet another XMMS spectrum analyzer. While most analyzers only show a changing snapshot of the current sound, waterfall shows a scrolling spectrogram, a 2-d plot of frequency vs time, with energy represented by intensity. There are also options to use color to display stereo discrepancies, frequency onsets, or frequency uniformity.

Kalva http://www.andreas-silberstorff.de/ktvapp/ 6122x
