Drip |
http://drip.sourceforge.net/ |
4980x |
Drip is a DVD to DIVX conversion application. It's made up out two applications: a DVD reader and a DIVX encoder. The reader is a GUI for the GNOME environment, the DIVX encoder a text mode tool. You wont have to learn to use the textmode tool, because the GUI also is a frontend for it. Drip is not yet usable for NTSC (Region1) DVDs because those are prepared differently as PAL DVDs.

Streamripper started as a way to separate tracks via Shoutcast's title-streaming feature. This has now been expanded into a much more generic feature, where part of the program only tries to "hint" at where one track starts and another ends, thus allowing a mp3 decoding engine to scan for a silent mark, which is used to find an exact track separation.

Cdparanoia will read correct, rock-solid audio data from inexpensive drives prone to misalignment, frame jitter and loss of streaming during atomic reads. cdparanoia will also read and repair data from CDs that have been damaged in some way.

libbgrab & webcam |
http://www.ferzkopp.net/[..]are/libbgrab/ |
3316x |
libbgrab is a video4linux grabbing library to facilitate use of framegrabber cards and webcams through a few function calls. To implement constant throughput and to avoid frame loss delays, triple buffering is used through local buffer copying in a separate grabbing thread. The many demo and utility programs included can display live video to X, convert live video to ASCII, smoothly zoom live-video (using Glide), do some image processing (using MMX), and provide a stand-alone webcam image server.

QuickRip is a basic DVD ripper for GNU/Linux written in Python and PyQt. Whilst it lacks options to fine-tune how you want to rip your DVD, it makes ripping quick and easy, and so is ideal for those who aren't bothered about framerates, clipping, and other (in my experience) unecessary options.
